The Kew Historical Society's postcard collection includes views of Kew, Melbourne and Greater Melbourne as well as those including overseas scenes sent or received from Europe or the Middle East. They date from the 1890s to the 2000s. These postcards may or may not include the name of the publisher or printer. A number of the cards were published as parts of popular series. Modern photographic postcard of the QPO Restaurant and the former Kew Court House. Melbourne Legacy
Photograph, Conference in Perth 1948, 1948
The photo shows a group of Legatees who attended the Legacy Club Conference held in Perth in September 1948. The three men at the front are Legatees Stan Savige on left and Bill Perrin in the centre. Other names are not known. Legatee Bill Perrin had been President in 1945 and had just been elected to succeed Legatee Savige as the Chairman of the Co-ordinating Council. The Legacy conference was held periodically and allowed Legatees from across Australia to gather together. The aim of the annual conference was an exchange of ideas and methods of carrying out Legacy functions, and to form general policy for cooperation between clubs and groups.These men were some of the founders and early members of Legacy throughout Australia and had fought in the first World War. This edition prepared for and copyrighted in the Australian Commonwealth and New Zealand. The hymn book was located in an antique shop 'Granny's Chattels' by Alan G. Cleland of Portland while on holidays in Echuca, Vic. After purchase he discovered that it was believed to have been originally purchased in Portland - see label for Charles French, Bookseller, Portland, inside front cover.Navy blue cloth-covered board binding. The role of Town Crier was created for Syd Cuffe in 1983 in the lead up to Portland’s 150th anniversary celebrations held in 1984-85. 200 items from Mr. Cuffe’s estate were donated to the Glenelg Shire Cultural Collection.
